Report: Fulham’s latest financial results mean for our summer spending

Fulham’s latest financial results mean for our summer spending

That’s it: we’ve officially escaped relegation. It was undoubtedly a concern in the games preceding the second international break; the 3-1 loss to Aston Villa seemed particularly low. Fulham looked like a team that couldn’t score for love or money. Our xG was second to just Luton’s. However, Fulham have turned things around. This team is in the process of ‘establishing themselves in the top flight’ and has demonstrated that they can find a way.

A better financial situation

The Whites have shown character, and it is paying off. Positive performances have had an impact on the club’s finances. Fulham generated a record revenue of £182.3 million in the 2022/23 season. We are the 26th most wealthy club in the world. However, the team still lost £26.1 million. However, this pales in comparison to the £90 million loss reported just a few years before. Given these figures, Fulham’s management will now determine how to proceed on the pitch ahead of a busy summer. The goal must be to press on.

They can begin by looking at the wage bill. Fulham spent a total of £139.1 million on salaries, the seventh lowest in the division. Had Mitrovic stayed, his goal bonus and pay would have propelled the club into the top ten of the wage league. The hierarchy will also consider Mitrovic’s transfer money, which will bring more revenue into the club through amortised fees (£17.8 million). Add that to the losses incurred as a result of Covid clawbacks, and Fulham’s overall losses fall on the correct side of the profit and sustainability requirements, with space to spare – and the loss limit for the 2024/25 season has now increased to £105 million.

Will Marco have money to spend?

The transfer budget will be allotted in June, and given the club’s financial situation, it will want to buy and sell players to keep its books balanced. Fulham’s total football costs are 101% of revenue, hence we are not yet’sustainable’. Our total wage amount appears to be rising anyway, but some assets will have to go to make way for new ones. However, the great thing about Fulham is that they have the luxury of thinking laterally. Market trading is a possible choice. Players of quality can come and depart for the appropriate price. Fulham has regained its appeal. But can they create a more consistent team unit?

How many are going out and how many are coming in?

Fulham are quite likely to lose a central midfielder. There are no prizes for predicting who that will be, but some other players may wish to be regular first-teamers or go for higher levels. Tom Cairney is perhaps the least likely of the candidates to leave.

At the back, Tim Ream is nearing the end of his career, and Tosin could be on his way out, so the search for a centre-back should have begun immediately. A right-footed player capable of matching Calvin Bassey on the left side must be the primary prerequisite. To improve on Tosin, he will need to be good with the ball at his feet.

Fulham has top-level skill in a variety of categories. They’ll want to keep at least two guys on each side. These positions are expected to pay the greatest wages. If the present four are unable to maintain their position by consistently delivering high-level performances, any departure in this position will necessitate a replacement who can hold his own for a few games at a time and share the burden of supply from the right and left sides.

Fulham’s striker crisis appears to be almost over. Rodrigo Muniz has come up, and Raul Jiminez is a quality number two who can play in cup games. Armando Broja has failed. Chelsea have The loan yielded nothing (except a hefty £4 million fee), and the player is practically worse off. Broja may come in for a little amount, if at all. However, the position is not a cause for alarm at this time.

The mix of old and young will hopefully work for at least the next season. The full-back position currently has the lowest depth. Clubs are after Antonee Robinson, and Kenny Tete may seek other pastures following a disappointing season. Fulham will need to identify potential alternatives. According to rumors, Atletico Madrid is interested in Andreas Pereira, therefore the scouting network will keep an eye on that position as well.
