Battling reliever for the Tigers gets placed on the development list.

DETROIT: After having trouble early in the season, right-handed reliever Brendan White was placed on the Triple-A Toledo development list this past weekend. Between two outings on April 4 and 7, while facing the Mud Hens, White walked six of the twelve batters he faced. He was placed on that list for development in order to work on some mechanical issues. Manager of the Tigers A.J. Hinch stated, “We have to get him in the strike zone.” “During the most of spring and the early part of the season, he has been inconsistent. It was time to take care of some technical problems and teach him how to locate pitches more competitively. That move was the only option to give him a respite and get him back into spring training mood.

On the development list, players have to stay for at least seven days. Players continue to receive their regular salaries, and the list cannot be used for punitive or injury purposes. Players like White who are part of the 40-man roster have to agree. Last June, White, 25, made his major league debut. In 40 2/3 innings, he was 2-3 with a 5.09 ERA for the Tigers in 2023, walking 15 and striking out 44. In 2019, he was selected in the 26th round by Siena College.
