In the series finale, Ohio State baseball outlasted Michigan State baseball.

Ohio’s Columbus (WILX) — After a back-and-forth contest on the diamond at Ohio State’s Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium on Sunday afternoon, Michigan State lost 10-6, preventing the Spartans from winning the series against the Buckeyes. After defeating OSU 11–7 on Friday night, MSU went on to win the series 17–12 on Saturday afternoon. After winning the series at Ohio State last weekend and taking two of three from Penn State last weekend, it was the Spartans’ second straight Big Ten series victory in as many weekends.

Following Sunday’s loss, Michigan State dropped to 7-8 in Big Ten play and is now 19-21 overall. Ohio State evened their record at 20-20 overall and 7-8 in conference play after ending a four-game losing streak. After winning two of three last season, the Spartans have defeated the Buckeyes in their last two series. In total, Michigan State has prevailed in 10 of the last 15 encounters against Ohio State, winning five of the previous seven meetings. MSU head coach Jake Boss Jr. stated, “Overall, any time you can win a series, especially on the road, it’s a fantastic weekend.” “Winning the series is the objective every weekend, and we can leave here with a positive mindset.”

, but defeat on Sunday will be difficult. We had a great chance to win today, in my opinion, to regain momentum and make up for losing to the Bucs a few weeks ago. While we’re sad with the outcome, we’re also happy that we prevailed in a road series against a strong squad over the course of the weekend. Junior infielder Sam Busch gave MSU the early lead in the second inning with a three-run home run, making the score 3-0. OSU tied the game at three runs apiece with a run in the bottom of the second and two more in the third. In the first inning, the Spartans reclaimed a three-run lead.

top of the fifth, taking advantage of a Buckeye error to score three runs with just one hit. The Spartans were unable to respond, though, as Ohio State scored two more runs in the sixth inning to take an 8-6 lead after more than offsetting MSU’s top of the fifth with a five-run inning in the fifth. Senior outfielder Jack Frank was 1-for-5 with a run scored, while graduate catcher Sam Thompson was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Ryan McKay, a rookie infielder, and Busch both went 1-for-4; McKay scored a run while Busch had three RBI on the home drive. Dillon Kark, a senior infielder, reached following an OSU error and scored a run. Randy Seymour, a sophomore infielder, scored

a run in the fifth after drawing a walk. Senior Nick Ferazzi took the mound for 4.0 innings, giving up seven runs and eight hits while striking out one and taking the loss. The excursion was completed by sophomore Nolan Higgins (2.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R) and senior Harrison Cook (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 K). With Busch’s three-run bomb in the top of the second stanza, the Spartans took an early 3-0 lead on the scoreboard. With two runs in the second and two more in the third, the Buckeyes rallied to tie the game at three. First, Seymour walked to begin the Spartan fifth, then Frank singled through the right side, and Seymour raced to third. Kark was up next, driving Seymour in by relying on an OSU mistake. After another OSU error sent Kark to third, senior outfielder Greg Ziegler reached on a fielder’s choice, allowing Frank to score. Freshman outfielder Landen Lozier grounded out but drove in Kark to give MSU a 6-3 lead following a Buckeye pitching change.
