Ja’Had Carter of the Ohio State Buckeyes enters the transfer portal

Ja’Had Carter, a safety for the Ohio State Buckeyes, made the announcement on social media on Sunday that he was back in the transfer portal. Carter transferred from Syracuse to Ohio State a season ago, so this is his second visit through the portal. Observe! Coach Kirk Saarloos of TCU Discusses the Big 12 S Carter was a three-year Syracuse University player who saw limited action with the Buckeyes in 2018. He recorded 136 total tackles between 2020 and 2022, including 97 solo, 3.5 for loss, five interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble over the course of 31 games. Despite playing just 122 defensive snaps in total, he was regarded as the best safety in the nation when he committed to Ohio State.

However, Carter only appeared in eight games and finished with five total tackles during his one season in Columbus. Josh Proctor, who had an incredible season, edged Carter for the starting position for the Buckeyes while Jordan Hancock and Sonny Styles alternated at nickel. When Alabama transfer Caleb Downs committed to the Buckeyes in January, Carter’s time was running out. Carter would again be the backup safety, with Lathan Ransom starting again. With the intention of entering the 2025 NFL Draft, the Richmond, Virginia, native has one year remaining on his eligibility as he looks to make an impression at a program where he can start.
