MLB 2024: April AL and NL All-Stars and letdown

GApril is almost over, which means it’s time to dig deeper into the performances we’ve witnessed throughout baseball’s first month in an exercise known as the all-April All-Stars. It’s tempting to overestimate a player’s first-game performance, but early setbacks could also be a hint of things to come. In that vein, one facet of the game I regularly monitor around April is which young batters are adjusting and improving—and which aren’t

FRISCO, Texas — Ezekiel Elliott has agreed to a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys worth up to $3 million, sources said ESPN on Monday, reuniting him with the team that selected him fourth overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. Elliott and his agent, Rocky Arceneaux, met with the Cowboys prior to last week’s selection and ended up at the same restaurant, Dee Lincoln Prime, where the team was hosting its scouts dinner. “Zeke, as we all know, is one of our favorites,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said on Thursday. “He’s put everything on the line for this franchise. He is the ultimate competitor. I mean, he’s a guy we certainly have high regard for.”

“Well, as we all know, Zeke is one of our faves,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones remarked on Thursday. “He’s put everything on the line for this franchise. He is the ultimate competitor. I mean, he’s a guy we certainly have high regard for.” After losing leading rusher Tony Pollard in free agency to the Tennessee Titans, the Cowboys are considering a committee strategy at running back. Dallas re-signed Rico Dowdle, the backup from last year, and acquired veteran Royce Freeman in free agency. The Cowboys also have Deuce Vaughn, a sixth-round pick from last year, Malik Davis, and Hunter Luepke on their roster.

After losing a decision to Tommy Fury in 2023, Paul focused his energy to face more experienced boxers in the hopes of being ranked by a governing body and eventually competing for a world championship. He followed the usual boxing path for two fights, winning by knockout over journeymen Andre August and Ryan Bourland, before returning to face Tyson.

The fight will be Netflix’s first entry into combat sports, and its third live athletic event in total. In an effort to break streaming records for a live athletic event, the organization added the highly anticipated rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano for Taylor’s undisputed super lightweight championship as the co-main event. Taylor won a split decision over Serrano at Madison Square Garden in their first meeting in 2022. The battle was a huge success, setting off the present boom in women’s boxing.
