Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur 4–2 with a goal and an assist from Harvey Elliott. Harvey Elliott gave Liverpool’s triumph over Tottenham Hotspur one of his best midfield displays to date. After the Reds’ 4-2 victory at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp gave the young player a lot of credit. Elliott was given an opportunity in the Liverpool engine room following the disastrous 2-2 tie with West Ham in the previous weekend. Starting ahead of Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, and Dominik Szoboszlai, the 21-year-old was lights out the whole game as the Reds got back to their winning ways. Before adding his name to the tally with an exquisite long-range effort that hit the top corner, he assisted Cody Gakpo’s header in the 50th minute.
Elliott’s ideal position has been the subject of discussion. He frequently played as a right winger; during the African Cup of Nations, he did so, and subsequently sustained an injury. But following a man-of-the-match display, the former Fulham star once more argued that midfield is where his long-term career rests. Anfield manager Klopp commented, “Harvey is amazing,” in reference to Elliott’s performance against Tottenham. Still so young, yet so remarkable. while he played right wing for us while Mo was hurt or at the Africa Cup of Nations, he was one of our best players for a very long time. He gave a superb performance. It was a pretty good effort, and the goal was outstanding, in my opinion, placing him in the top three or four performances of the day in the midfield position. Everyone takes a minute to become even more self-assured. He’s got himself a terrific moment, but that certainly helps. He put in a lot of effort and performed admirably in the opposite direction as well. The right side, along with Mo—who was outstanding today—and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] can play this role and determine more effectively that he can stay wide as well because we are well-positioned, football-wise, in the center. Harvey played a fantastic game; it was outstanding. What an objective. When you only see it floating in during the game, you may say, “That was a good shot.” That was the objective I observed subsequently; there wasn’t much room to the left or right, and it went in precisely where it should have ought to be. primary objective
