Al-Ettifaq is where Steven Gerrard wants Liverpool coach John Achterberg to go. The legendary Steven Gerrard of Liverpool now wants John Achterberg to become a member of his coaching staff at Al-Ettifaq, a Saudi Arabian team. The Mirror claims that Achterberg would travel to the Middle East this summer after formally announcing his intention to depart Anfield. After spending 15 years at Anfield, Achterberg will be leaving Liverpool following Jurgen Klopp’s decision to resign as manager. The goalie coach was initially brought to Anfield by Rafa Benitez in 2009. The 52-year-old joined the senior fold in 2011 after working at their academy for a while.

Achterberg’s experience has been a major asset to Klopp; the former Tranmere Rovers goalkeeper was also responsible for Liverpool’s identification of Alisson Becker as a target. Gerrard has now extended an invitation to Achterberg, who is expected to accept it this summer, to join him at El-Ettifaq.
