Report: The legendary player from Liverpool says he was shocked by the relocation to Merseyside and asks, “What is this?”

Former Liverpool player Pepe Reina acknowledges that when he first completed his transfer from Villarreal back in 2005, he was AGHAST at the British weather.

After replacing Jerzy Dudek, the Champions League hero, the Spaniard played as Anfield’s first choice for eight seasons. Along with other accolades, he won the FA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup for the Reds. In 2013, he went on loan to Napoli, where he once more became friends with Rafael Benitez, the manager of Liverpool who had first signed him. As one of the best goalkeepers in Spain, Reina brought his reputation to Merseyside after winning three Premier League Golden Gloves and being named Liverpool player of the year in 2009–10.

But as he finalized his relocation from the sunny Castellon region of Spain, he confided in his wife Yolanda about his misgivings about the transfer. He told La Liga World, “I looked at my wife for two weeks and thought, ‘What is this?'” “We came from a place where the average temperature was twenty-five degrees, but there, for two weeks in July, there was nonstop rain.” I was horrified. It was tough for me to adjust because I hadn’t anticipated that.”Despite his concerns, the World Cup winner settled down and emerged as one of the premier league’s most dependable goalkeepers throughout his nearly ten-year tenure in Liverpool’s net. “I was still a kid, so it was difficult,” he remarked. I turned 23 at the time. Ultimately, even if it can be challenging, you adjust to everything when things are going well for you, you’re content, at ease, and you feel appreciated. “It was the most significant period of my career, a time when I felt and performed at my peak both individually and collectively. I was at Liverpool for eight fantastic years.”

REINA DESIRES TO GO INTO COACHING LIKE GERRARD AND XABI ALONSO

Now forty-one, Reina also disclosed his intentions to transition from playing to coaching, following in the footsteps of former teammates Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard. It is astonishing that he is still on Villarreal’s roster after having played for clubs like AC Milan, Lazio, Bayern Munich, and Aston Villa during his career. He declared, “I want to be a coach.” “As though 35 years weren’t enough, I would like to carry on coaching for a another 30 years.” I want to be well-prepared to give it a go because I am quite passionate about it.

“I’m sure I’ll be among the coaches who frequently come onto the field in protest. In my opinion, the most crucial factor is having good human group management skills. You must be an effective communicator, convey your point clearly, and have self-confidence. “I think players today are more prepared and have an easier time comprehending things when it comes to tactical aspects, but believing in the message seems very essential to me.”
