Arne Slot hints in a message to Richard Hughes about Liverpool’s summer transfer ambitions.

Arne Slot has indicated he won’t recruit from his current club, Feyenoord, when he becomes the new Liverpool boss. The agreement between Liverpool and Feyenoord for compensation is close to finalization, and Slot’s appointment at Anfield is imminent. Although both clubs are ending their seasons this weekend, Slot could be announced as Jürgen Klopp’s successor as soon as next week. He’s expected to take on the role of ‘head coach’, which means he won’t have full authority over transfers. Despite this, there have been rumors linking several Feyenoord players to Liverpool, who have flourished under Slot’s leadership. Last month, De Telegraaf reported that defender Lutsharel Geertruida expressed interest in joining Slot at Liverpool, having observed their recent match against West Ham from the stands.

HITC reports that midfielder Mats Wieffer is also being monitored, with Slot tipping him to become one of the world’s best players. Additionally, Slovakian defender Dávid Hancko, who was reportedly targeted by Liverpool last summer, has openly expressed his admiration for the Reds.

Feyenoord is set to secure second place in the Eredivisie this season and has already clinched the Dutch Cup, having won the league title a year ago. Slot hopes the team he has assembled will stay together, suggesting he won’t actively try to attract players to Anfield.

In an interview with Dutch publication Algemeen Dagblad following the victory over NEC, Slot stated: “Our goal was and still is to elevate the entire team. These players have all been given the time and attention to improve. Feyenoord’s priority should be to retain as many players as possible. This will ensure that many players can perform at their best over the next six months.” There are rumors that ex-Liverpool midfielder Nuri Şahin could succeed Slot at Feyenoord, with the Borussia Dortmund assistant emerging as a potential replacement.

Liverpool’s transfer activities will be overseen by new sporting director Richard Hughes, who will officially assume his role when the season concludes next week. Strengthening the central defense is likely a priority as Joël Matip prepares to depart on a free transfer. The Athletic also suggests that acquiring a wide attacker is on the agenda.
