Report: Jorgensen, Patterson, and the goalkeepers are rumored to be heading to Liverpool in the summer.

Jorgensen, Patterson, and the goalkeepers are rumored to be heading to Liverpool in the summer.

This summer, Liverpool will undergo a significant change in the goalkeeper position. The future of undisputed number one Alisson Becker is in doubt because the Brazilian is rumored to be “open” to go to the Saudi Pro League. Being one of the best players in the world for his position, the 31-year-old has a contract at Anfield through 2027, so it would take a big offer to get him to leave Merseyside. Meanwhile, Caoimhin Kelleher nearly quit the team during the summer. The 25-year-old Irishman isn’t getting any younger, and he has a strong ambition to be a No. 1 goalie somewhere.

He has appeared in more than 25 matches in a single season for the first time in his career at Anfield, catching the attention of clubs like Celtic and Nottingham Forest. Additionally, Adrian San Miguel, the long-term third-choice goalkeeper, seems poised to depart, expressing a desire to return to Spain, where he spent 15 years with Real Betis.

Not only are all three senior goalkeepers at Liverpool facing uncertainties, but there are also changes expected in the coaching department. John Achterberg, after a 15-year tenure, and another member of the coaching staff, Jack Robinson, are both set to leave. A potential candidate to fill the vacant goalkeeping coach role is Jyri Nieminen, who has been working under Arne Slot at Feyenoord.

Now, let’s explore some of the goalkeepers linked with a move to Liverpool ahead of the summer 2024 transfer window:

1. FILIP JORGENSEN – VILLARREAL:

The Sweden-born Denmark under-21 international has risen through the ranks at Villarreal to become their first-choice goalkeeper this season. Jorgensen, aged 22, has garnered attention from scouts at Liverpool, Juventus, Arsenal, and Manchester City for his performances in LaLiga. With his contract until 2027, Jorgensen may seek assurances of being a No.1 goalkeeper at his next club.

2. ANTHONY PATTERSON – SUNDERLAND:

Considered one of the top goalkeepers in the Championship, Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson is attracting interest from Liverpool and other Premier League and second-tier clubs. Liverpool initially eyed him as a backup for around £8 million, but Sunderland reportedly seeks close to £15 million for the 24-year-old England under-21 player. Interest from Sheffield United and Wolves complicates the situation.

3. JAMES TRAFFORD – BURNLEY:

Liverpool reportedly expressed concrete interest in Burnley’s James Trafford, who lost his place in the lineup. Despite a challenging season, the 21-year-old remains a promising talent. Trafford, signed by Burnley from Manchester City last summer for an initial £15 million, is under contract until 2027.

4. ALEX MCCARTHY – SOUTHAMPTON:

Liverpool is reportedly eyeing Alex McCarthy, the 34-year-old goalkeeper set to leave Southampton at the end of his contract. McCarthy was previously linked with Liverpool in 2014 and 2019. With Adrian departing, Liverpool seeks an experienced recruit. Celtic, Newcastle, and teams in Saudi Arabia are also interested in McCarthy.
