Report: QB Jarred Goff signs a four-year, $212 million extension with the Lions.

QB Jarred Goff signs a four-year, $212 million extension with the Lions.

After all, Jared Goff is not viewed as a bridge quarterback by the Detroit Lions. Numerous reports claim that the Lions and Goff have reached a long-term extension agreement.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that Goff signed a $212 million, four-year contract with a guaranteed $170 million. With an annual contract of $53 million, Goff is currently the most paid athlete in franchise history. He is currently the quarterback with the highest compensation. At $55 million, only Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals earns more. In 2021, Goff became a member of the Lions when Matthew Stafford was traded to the Los Angeles Rams. At first, it was thought Detroit would select a new franchise quarterback in the draft and use Goff as a stopgap quarterback. But even if the Lions had those ideas, Goff’s outstanding play forced them to rethink them. He played in his debut season in the Pro Bowl.

However, even if the Lions initially had different plans, Goff’s outstanding performances compelled them to reconsider. He impressed by earning a Pro Bowl selection in his first season with the team, followed by an even stronger showing in 2023.

During the last season, Goff achieved a career-high 67.3% pass completion rate while throwing for 4,575 yards and 30 touchdowns. The Lions secured the NFC North title with a 12-5 record and advanced to the NFC Championship Game.

In the offseason, the Detroit Lions prioritized securing their key players with long-term contracts. Before extending Goff’s contract, they also ensured that standout wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and All-Pro offensive tackle Penei Sewell remained with the team by signing them to new deals.
