As a chilling version of You’ll Never Walk Alone reverberates across Anfield, Klopp is nearly crying.

As one final Anfield performance of You’ll Never Walk Alone marked an end to his Liverpool career, an emotional Jurgen Klopp seemed on the point of tears. Jurgen Klopp’s time as Reds manager comes to an end on Sunday, May 19, 2024. Klopp took over the position in October 2015, and in his eight and a half years as manager, he has delivered on his promise to convert skeptics into believers. Dubbed himself the Normal One. For the majority of their history, Liverpool has been among the most illustrious teams in the world, but when the German succeeded Brendan Rodgers, they were definitely in a slump.

But in the previous ten years, the Reds have regained their dominance, as seen by their sixth Champions League crown in 2019 and their first English first flight crown in thirty years in 2020. Under Klopp, Liverpool also won the FA Cup, the Club World Cup, and several other titles along the way, including the Carabao Cup this year. Even though Klopp had made every effort to maintain the focus on Sunday’s game against Wolves, it was inevitable that the 56-year-old would use it as his farewell celebration. As Liverpool’s squad coach arrived at Anfield, supporters gathered in the streets. Inside the stadium, stunning mosaic displays adorned the stands, one of which read “DANKE JURGEN.”

As the opening bars of the Reds’ timeless club anthem were enthusiastically chanted in four stands, Klopp appeared at ease, joyful, and smiling; yet, at the conclusion, he became visibly choked up. Maybe Klopp started to realize how much he and this club had accomplished together, or maybe he was thinking about the reality that it was now only 90 minutes away from ending forever. Regardless, it was a chilling experience that will live on in the memories of everyone who saw it below earth. This served as the last reminder that everything was coming to an end, and there will be many more moments filled with emotion, love, and respect in the days and weeks to come.
