Liverpool begins negotiations to sign defender Odilon Kossounou from Bayer Leverkusen.

Liverpool is reportedly initiating discussions with Bayer Leverkusen’s Odilon Kossounou for a potential move to Anfield this summer, as per CaughtOffside. The 23-year-old has been pivotal for Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, featuring prominently in Xabi Alonso’s remarkable season. Despite a contract renewal offer, Kossounou has yet to respond, prompting Liverpool to lead the chase for the Ivory Coast international, who is also attracting interest from Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid.

Although Kossounou’s contract runs until 2026 and Leverkusen are not in a hurry to sell, Liverpool could secure the deal with an offer around €60m (£51m). Liverpool’s interest in Kossounou intensifies their efforts to reinforce their squad for the upcoming season, particularly in defense, following Joel Matip’s departure. With only a few recognized center-backs in the squad, Liverpool aims to bolster depth, especially considering their commitments in the Premier League, Champions League, and domestic cup competitions.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Kossounou comes after thorough scouting and his impressive performances since joining Leverkusen from Club Brugge in 2021. Standing at 1.91 m, Kossounou combines aerial prowess with speed, strength, and aggression in ground duels. His ability to play out from the back adds to his appeal for top European clubs. As Liverpool escalates their interest, negotiations will determine whether they meet Leverkusen’s €60m (£51m) valuation or seek a discounted deal amidst competition from other clubs.
