Anfield’s next coach, Jürgen Klopp’s replacement, has received positive feedback from a guy who handled Arne Slot throughout his playing career. This summer, Liverpool had to make a big decision. But one of the Dutchman’s former coaches feels the Reds could have made a wise decision in replacing Jürgen Klopp with Arne Slot. Alongside his longtime assistant Sipke Hulshoff, who will join him to Anfield, Slot started his coaching career in 2016 with Cambuur. Following that, he performed admirably for AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord, winning the league championship with the latter team. According to Liverpool.com, Slot appears to have given Liverpool a lucky break. The Feyenoord manager scored highly on a method designed to evaluate possible new coaches, and coincidentally, he possesses several of the sought-after “intangibles.” Although Michael Edwards wouldn’t have been able to score managers based on whether or not they had previously worked in working-class port cities, it will undoubtedly aid Slot in understanding Liverpool’s culture. The fact that the best applicant was more than willing to assume the position of “head coach” as opposed to manager is also helpful. Liverpool likewise did not give age much of a concern in their hunt. But if all goes as planned, Slot, who is only 45, has all the time in the world to establish a dynasty.
