Liverpool News: Release Clause Could Bring Exceptional Attacker to Anfield, Says Journalist

Liverpool is reportedly eyeing an outstanding attacker, potentially facilitated by a release clause, according to a journalist. Eberechi Eze has showcased his talents, making a significant impact that has caught Liverpool’s attention. As Euro 2024 progresses, Liverpool is monitoring several transfer targets, although it has been a disappointing tournament for their players. Scotland, led by Andy Robertson, has been eliminated, and Virgil van Dijk and the Netherlands are facing criticism. Trent Alexander-Arnold is also under pressure, with Gary Neville suggesting he will be ‘devastated’ by England’s situation.

Despite these setbacks, the tournament has been enjoyable, and Liverpool fans may soon cheer on standout players at Anfield. One key target is Spain’s Nico Williams, who has impressed at the Euros. Journalist Ben Jacobs believes Liverpool is a strong contender for Williams, whose release clause exceeds £45m. However, his high wage demands, over £200k-per-week, pose a challenge.

Chelsea has opted out of pursuing Williams, and while Barcelona is interested, they find the price too high. Both Arsenal and Liverpool remain potential destinations for the winger. Williams’ request to become Liverpool’s top earner is a concern, but journalist Graeme Bailey notes this is unlikely. Williams, 21, has shown promise, especially with a standout performance against Italy, praised by former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

In our opinion, Liverpool will consider signing Williams only if he lowers his wage demands significantly. Meanwhile, Liverpool is also in discussions to finalize Anthony Gordon’s transfer from Newcastle and is interested in two Real Madrid players. The club has submitted a £59 million bid for a promising youngster and is debating the pursuit of Riccardo Calafiori after his Euro 2024 display.
