The top ten players available in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft
The biggest question mark around Bronny James’s landing location is that there are a few elite players who might make an immediate impact when the two-day tournament commences on Thursday. The NBA draft will begin its new two-day format on Thursday. Following Wednesday’s Round 1, the second round will get its own time. The main plot point of the second day is where Bronny James will ultimately play, with many people circling the Los Angeles Lakers at No. 55 as James’s most likely destination. Aside from the James discussion, there are still a number of elite players available heading into the second day of the draft, many of whom have the potential to contribute as soon as the following season in their new teams. The top ten players who are still available are shown here.
1. Kyle Filipowski, Duke Blue Devils
Filipowski is a rare find due to his versatile offensive skills, including ball handling, three-point shooting, and distributing, despite being a 6’11” big man. While his defense is better than often perceived, there is some concern about his double hip surgery from last April. If his medicals are clear, he’s a valuable early second-round pick.
2. Johnny Furphy, Kansas Jayhawks
Furphy was expected to go in the first round but surprisingly slipped. The athletic slasher played a crucial role for the Jayhawks after reclassifying from the 2024 high school class to 2023. Although still developing, he is likely to be picked early in the second round.
3. Cam Christie, Minnesota Golden Gophers
Similar to his brother Max, who was a borderline first-round pick in 2022, Cam Christie may also fall to the early second round. Despite his slender build, which may hinder his rookie impact, Christie showcased impressive skills at Minnesota and has long-term potential as a shooter.
4. Justin Edwards, Kentucky Wildcats
Edwards, once expected to be a high draft pick, faces a Day 2 selection after a disappointing year at Kentucky. Despite this, his size and slashing ability provide significant upside, though consistency has been an issue since his high school days.
5. Adem Bona, UCLA Bruins
Bona, a highly athletic Turkish center, may benefit from the quick selection of centers in this draft. His speed and explosiveness make him an intriguing defensive prospect, and he could be a good fit for the New York Knicks at No. 38 due to their need for a defensive big man.
6. Tyler Smith, G League Ignite
Smith, overshadowed by teammates Ron Holland and Matas Buzelis, was expected to be a late first-round pick but remains available on Day 2. His shooting skills make him an interesting prospect, though he may take time to develop into a consistent two-way player.
7. Keshad Johnson, Arizona Wildcats

8. Cam Spencer, UConn Huskies
Despite struggling in the NBA draft combine scrimmages, Spencer was pivotal in UConn’s national title run. Known for his competitive spirit and excellent three-point shooting, he brings high value and is deserving of a guaranteed contract.
9. Jonathan Mogbo, San Francisco Dons
Mogbo is an unconventional player, an undersized forward with ball-handling and passing skills but lacking an outside shot. The right team context is crucial to maximize his unique game, and he could become a Day 2 steal if utilized correctly.
