Power news: Lions sign UFL kicker Jake Bates to 2-year deal and lions is ready to give more offers ………

Big-footed UFL kicker Jake Bates has inked a two-year deal with the Detroit Lions, according to his agent Marty Magid, who spoke to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Magid informed Schefter on Tuesday that Bates had signed a $1.98 million contract that includes a $100,000 signing bonus and a guaranteed sum of $150,000.

With 17 field goals for the Michigan Panthers this season, Bates, 24, was rated second in the UFL. Against the St. Louis Battlehawks in the season opener, he scored a game-winning kick of 64 yards, which is only two yards short of Justin Tucker’s NFL record of 66 yards.

Before deciding to stay in Michigan, Bates visited the Lions, Packers, and Commanders. That kick was his first in a game. Originally from soccer, the former athlete didn’t turn to football until he was a senior in high school and was a kickoff specialist in college at Texas State and Arkansas.
