Liverpool really wanted to buy £86m defender this summer but he didn’t want to leave: report

It seemed likely that Liverpool would add one or two players to their squad. As we approach August, there is still a good chance that will happen. With the transfer window closing soon, Liverpool’s top targets are becoming less available.

The Reds didn’t plan to make many signings this summer, having overhauled their midfield just a year ago. However, with few strong links, it’s unclear who Liverpool is targeting.

Leny Yoro was a genuine target, but the French player joined Manchester United. It seems Yoro wasn’t the only young center-back Liverpool was interested in.

Liverpool missed out on Jorrel Hato

As Arne Slot seeks a new center-back, Yoro seemed the best option. Young, promising, and affordable, the 18-year-old could have been a great addition for Slot. Liverpool expected Yoro to join Real Madrid and couldn’t match United’s offer for the France U21 star, missing out on their top defensive target.

Journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Liverpool may have considered signing Ajax’s young defender Jorrel Hato before looking at Yoro. Jacobs told Forest Fan TV that it would be surprising if Liverpool didn’t sign a left-sided center-back before the window closes.
