Former Blue Jays utilityman Cavan Biggio is in familiar territory this summer, as the Los Angeles Dodgers are allegedly designating him for assignment with the return of Freddie Freeman to the roster. Freeman has been placed on the restricted list after spending time with his family following his young son Max’s hospitalization with Guillain-Barré syndrome. Biggio, a fifth-round pick by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2016, was DFA’d on June 7th and traded to the Dodgers in exchange for RHP Braydon Fisher. The corresponding move for Biggio at the time was to elevate Spencer Horwitz, who replaced the 29-year-old on the roster. In six seasons with the Blue Jays, Biggio had a.227/.343/.382 slash line with 48 Home runs and a.725 OPS. He was never able to carve out a full-time role like his teammates Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette, and he also struggled with injuries that kept him out for parts of the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Dodgers have designated Cavan Biggio for assignment. Biggio played many positions on the diamond for the Blue Jays, including second base, third base, first base, and right field, with the majority of his time spent on the right side of second. Following his move to Los Angeles, Biggio struggled in the batter’s box, posting a.192/.306/.329 slash line and a.635 OPS.
