Lions Camp Agreed (UDFA Rookie Center Can Make 53-Man Roster)

Undrafted rookie center Kingsley Eguakun has caught the eye of the Detroit Lions coaching staff with his impressive performance early in training camp.

An ankle injury cut short his final season at Florida, providing the Lions’ personnel department the chance to sign the 6-foot-3, 304-pound lineman as an undrafted rookie free agent, with a contract offering substantial guaranteed money ($245,000).

Eguakun stood out to many scouts at the Senior Bowl, consistently excelling in one-on-one drills against top college prospects.

As Justin Melo from The Draft Network notes, “Eguakun is a promising player with the foundational strength and technique needed to handle various challenges at the line of scrimmage. With 30 career starts in the SEC and 42 total appearances, he brings a wealth of experience. Notably, Eguakun did not allow a single sack across 901 pass protection snaps in his career.”

Eguakaun performed a fantastic pre-draft workout as well. The native of Jacksonville possessed a 32-inch vertical leap and a 9-foot-1 broad jump. In addition, he ran a 7.57 three-cone and a 4.51 shuttle. Eguakun’s performance resulted in a 9.09 Relative Athletic Score, despite the notable lack of an official 40-yard sprint time. The 23-year-old’s ability to successfully seal off defensive tackles and levy a successful block on a linebacker against the Giants should give the coaching staff more confidence to use him more in the next weeks. Conor Galvin’s season was cut short against the Giants due to a torn MCL, which hurt Detroit’s offensive line depth. Due to a medical condition, rookie Christian Mahogany was absent from the first part of training camp.
