“I’ve received offers” – Former player for Fulham, Millwall, and QPR admits to retiringDespite receiving several offers this summer, former Fulham, Millwall, and QPR striker Matt Smith has acknowledged he will probably hang up his boots. Smith scored 17 goals in 91 league appearances during his successful stint at The Den in 2019–2022, whereas between 2017 and 2019, he scored 21 goals in 92 league matches for QPR. Smith moved out of London in 2022 and connected with Salford City, home of the Class of 92. The target man was dismissed this summer despite his incredible scoring form since making the move, when he scored 40 goals in 95 league games. Relatively late in his career, the 35-year-old entered the top two categories after hewas signed by Leeds United in 2013, and he joined Fulham a year later. Between 2014 and 2017, he made 51 league appearances with the Cottagers, scoring nine goals. Smith has received offers since leaving Salford at the age of 35, but he believes he is leaning toward retirement and is eager to leave on his own terms. “To be completely honest, I think this is it,” he said to the Breaking Lines podcast. I have received five or six shady offers, identical to what I received at Salford, and I haven’t disclosed my retirement. I believe that I’m attempting to strike a balance between the next ten years and the next ten months. I’m attempting to look a little further ahead, which is why I’m in this position today.
