Officially, the New York Jets have unveiled their 53-man roster for the 2024 season. While there were a few shocking additions and a few noteworthy subtractions, the team’s roster changes were largely logical and expected. Still, the Jets aren’t done with their maneuvers. There’s a good chance that the Jets’ Week 1 roster will be very different from the one they unveiled on Tuesday. Changes are going to occur. The waiver wire may be the source of some of those modifications. NFL teams can file waiver claims for players cut by other teams until 12 p.m. ET today. Potential NY Jets Waiver Wire Targets
10. TE Brenden Bates
With the release of Anthony Firkser and the placement of Kenny Yeboah on injured reserve, the Jets currently have only two tight ends on their 53-man roster. This makes it likely that they will be looking to add another player to the position, and the waiver wire has some intriguing options.
One such option is undrafted rookie Brenden Bates, who had an impressive preseason with the Chicago Bears. Signed out of Kentucky following the 2024 NFL Draft, Bates excelled, finishing second among tight ends in receiving yards with 100 yards on six catches. He was also Pro Football Focus’ highest-graded rookie tight end this summer, earning an 85.8 grade.
Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 255 pounds, Bates showcased his potential as both a receiver and blocker, making him a valuable target on the waiver wire. Multiple teams have shown interest in Bates, and the Jets should consider adding him to their roster.
9. TE E.J. Jenkins
Another tight end the Jets could target is E.J. Jenkins. Some Jets fans might remember Jenkins from last offseason when he signed with the team as an undrafted free agent. The former Georgia Tech standout even scored a touchdown in the preseason before being waived during final roster cuts.
Jenkins, who is 6-foot-7 and 243 pounds, was considered a strong candidate for the Eagles’ roster but was surprisingly waived again. Reports indicate that Jenkins is expected to draw interest from multiple teams, and given the Jets’ familiarity with him, they should consider bringing him back.
8. C Sam Mustipher
Although the Jets decided to keep 10 offensive linemen on their active roster, they could still make changes to this group. One veteran who could catch their eye is center Sam Mustipher. The former Chicago Bears starter, recently released by the Broncos, is one of the most experienced offensive linemen available on the market.
Mustipher started 40 games over three seasons with the Bears between 2020 and 2022 before serving as a backup in Baltimore last season. The Jets currently lack a true backup center and, having already added two other 2023 Ravens offensive linemen this offseason, Mustipher could be a logical addition.
7. TE Cole Turner
Given their need at tight end, the Jets might consider another intriguing option: Cole Turner. A fifth-round pick by the Washington Commanders in the 2022 NFL Draft, Turner played in 22 games over the past two seasons and was expected to make the 53-man roster in 2024. However, he was waived after trade talks failed.
While Turner is still developing as a receiver, he has shown promise as a blocker in limited playing time. The Jets, who observed Turner during a joint practice earlier this month, could benefit from adding a developmental blocking tight end to their roster.
6. WR Isaiah Hodgins
Isaiah Hodgins, a former starting wide receiver for the New York Giants, is one of the most notable names to hit the waiver wire. Hodgins, who broke out for the Giants in 2022 and continued to be a key part of their receiver rotation in 2023, is expected to attract significant interest from multiple teams.

5. TE Jesper Horsted
The Jets might also look to veteran tight end Jesper Horsted, whom they saw in action during joint practice with the Carolina Panthers this summer. He caught all three of his targets for 64 yards in three games.
Horsted, with 41 career NFL games under his belt, could provide much-needed depth at a position where the Jets are currently thin.
4. C Ricky Stromberg
Another player the Jets could consider is Ricky Stromberg, a third-round pick in last year’s NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders. Surprisingly waived by the Commanders, Stromberg appeared in just three games as a rookie and was hindered by injuries both last year and this summer.
Despite these setbacks, Stromberg’s potential remains high. He was waived with an injury designation, so the severity of his injury is unclear, but if it’s not serious, the Jets and other teams should be interested.
3. TE Donald Parham
The Los Angeles Chargers released longtime tight end Donald Parham, a move that disappointed many of their fans. Parham, who stands at a towering 6-foot-8 and weighs 240 pounds, has been a key depth player for the Chargers over the past four seasons.
Known for his red-zone prowess, Parham has started 23 of 47 games over four seasons, catching 67 passes for 674 yards and 11 touchdowns. Although he isn’t subject to waivers, Parham could immediately bolster the Jets’ tight end group if they sign him.
2. WR Noah Brown
Noah Brown, perhaps the most prominent offensive player released recently, is not expected to remain a free agent for long. The former Dallas Cowboys receiver, who was caught in a numbers game in a deep Texans wide receiver group, has recorded back-to-back seasons with over 550 receiving yards.
Brown is a proven NFL wide receiver and will likely have several options in free agency. If he doesn’t find a better opportunity elsewhere, the Jets should strongly consider bringing him in.
1. TE Jack Stoll
A personal favorite for the Jets among waiver wire targets is former Philadelphia Eagles tight end Jack Stoll. Stoll, known for his blocking abilities, started 26 games for the Eagles over the last three seasons and developed a reputation as one of the league’s better blocking tight ends.
After signing with the New York Giants this offseason, Stoll was surprisingly released during final roster cuts. The Jets, who observed him closely during joint practice with the Giants, should consider adding him to their roster. Stoll, a vested veteran not subject to waivers, could be signed at any time and would provide valuable depth as a third blocking tight end and core special teams player.
