Detroit Lions sign two former Oregon State Beavers players again

Jermar Jefferson was added to the Detroit Lions practice squad due to his strong preseason and training camp performances.

The former Oregon State Beavers star running back was added to the practice squad by the Lions on Wednesday, the organization said. He was released the day before as the team’s roster was whittled down to 53 men. Kyle Peko, a former defensive tackle for the Beavers, was also added by the Lions to their practice squad. Jefferson ran 14 times for 38 yards throughout the preseason, including two touchdowns in the Lions’ 24-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday. Though he has demonstrated vision and explosiveness on the field, the Lions’ seventh-round choice (No. 257) in the 2021 NFL draft may have benefited from improved pass protection this year.

The 31-year-old Peko did not play in any preseason games after agreeing to a free agent contract with the Lions in May. After signing with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2016, he has played in 42 games (12 starts) with the team. He started 10 games with the Tennessee Titans in 2023.
