The Eagles’ reasoning for moving Reddick was his dissatisfaction with his existing contract. Reddick signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Eagles, which is currently in its final year. The contract, which pays $14.25 million in base salary plus $50,000 in incentives, was inherited by the Jets.
Normally, a player would return to the squad after paying the fines related to holding out. Following their last preseason game, the Dallas Cowboys signed wide out CeeDee Lamb to a contract that made Lamb the highest-paid receiver in football. Reddick, though, hasn’t wavered. He remained silent throughout training camp, asking for a different deal, and, according to Douglas, he hasn’t heard anything from the player’s representative in a few weeks. The 29-year-old was recently ranked among the top 100 players in the game by his peers, so the Jets would welcome him back eventually.
With 11 sacks, 23 quarterback hits, and 13 tackles for loss in his final season with Philadelphia, he was selected to the Pro Bowl for the second consecutive year. In the first year of his current contract (2022), he recorded career-highs of 26 quarterback hits and 16 sacks. That season, he also forced an NFL-high five fumbles. He has collected 51 sacks during the last four years. In that time, the only players with more sacks are Trey Hendrickson (53), Myles Garrett (58), and T.J. Watt (62). He is also one of only seven defensive players in the last ten years to have at least four seasons with ten or more sacks.
