Hull City transfer news: Tigers are “setting up” their 16th summer addition as a safety net for Oscar Zambrano.

Hull City is expected to recruit former Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Steven Alzate as their sixteenth summer addition. Born in England but a teammate of Gustavo Puerta in Colombia, the 25-year-old is a free agent, thus Hull was able to sign him after the transfer deadline on Friday. Alzate, who was released by Brighton in the summer, was allegedly going through a physical on Thursday. He made 72 appearances for Brighton in his seven years on the south coast, but he also spent time on loan at Swindon Town and twice at Standard Liege.

Oscar Zambrano and Puerta, two holding midfielders that Hull loaned during the summer window, are not guaranteed to be available since Ecaudorian Zambrano is under investigation for a possible doping offense. Since coming from LDU Quito, he has started two games for Hull. In addition to returning four players following successful loans, Hull lost eighteen senior players in the summer. Liam Cooper, a free agent who saw the 0-0 draw with Millwall, had also been linked to them, but a deal to bring the former Leeds United captain from Hull back for a second stint at his home club collapsed. When the international break ends one week from Friday, they play their next game at home against Sheffield United.
