Breaking:Lions have sign one of the (Athletic Big Man) to Active Roster to Bolster Defensive Line

The last available position on the active roster has been filled by the Detroit Lions. On September 11, the organization declared that defensive tackle Kyle Peko, who had been on the practice squad, had been added to the active roster. The Lions also declared that defensive tackle Chris Smith and kicker Greg Joseph had been formally added to the practice squad. Peko is a recent addition to the team’s active roster, however he has already participated in his first regular season since 2024. Peko was promoted from the practice squad to the starting lineup for the Lions in Week 1. Against the Los Angeles Rams, he recorded one combined tackle, one tackle for loss, and one quarterback hit in 37 defensive plays. Peko was a Tennessee Titan and a first-year defensive line coach for Terrell Williams of the Lions.

When players return from long-term injuries, the Lions want to go slowly, SB Nation’s Pride of Detroit’s Erik Schlitt writes. “Reader probably wouldn’t play a full complement of snaps if he performs as predicted, therefore Peko will be counted on to augment defensive snaps in Week 2 and maybe beyond.” Peko recorded 22 total tackles in 13 games during the previous campaign, including 2 tackles for loss and 2 quarterback hits. For the Titans, he started ten of those games. With all of those numbers, including the 342 defensive snaps he played, Peko set new career highs. Lions Sign Greg Joseph, DL, as a Kicker Chris Smith In Week 1, Detroit introduced new kicker Jake Bates. He converted both of his field goals and both of his extra-point attempts. However, Joseph, who has extensive NFL kicking experience, was nevertheless added by the Lions to the practice squad. Joseph has played for the Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans, and Cleveland Browns in 67 NFL games. at his previous three seasons at Minnesota, Joseph’s field goal percentage was 82.2%. In 17 games in 2023, he was 24-for-30 (80%) on field goals and 36-for-38 (94.7%) on extra points. The Lions’ addition of a seasoned kicker is not remarkable, given Bates’ performance in Week 1. At the conclusion of the preseason, Lions general manager Brad Holmes informed media that he planned to sign a new kicker.
