Emergency  : Maple Leafs  report’s “He May Not Play Again, This Might Be the End of His Hockey Career,” Maple Leafs’ Craig Berube Shares John Tavares Injury Update….

Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares sustained a significant leg injury during a practice session on January 15, 2025. The incident occurred when Tavares’s skate became entangled with teammate Chris Tanev’s during a power-play drill. Despite leaving the ice under his own power, Tavares was promptly directed to the locker room for evaluation. Head coach Craig Berube, who did not have a clear view of the incident, stated, “Nothing yet. He’s being evaluated.”

The following day, the Maple Leafs announced that Tavares had been placed on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury and is considered week-to-week. Coach Berube expressed the team’s sentiments: “It’s unfortunate [it happened] in practice. Bad luck, but it is what it is, and we have to move on from it right now.” He emphasized Tavares’s invaluable contribution, noting his production, leadership, and role as an all-situations player.

In Tavares’s absence, forward Max Domi has been elevated to the second-line center position. Berube highlighted Domi’s potential to provide offense and playmaking abilities, stating, “He is a guy who can go up there and provide some offense and playmaking ability. We are going to need that from him.”

Reflecting on a similar situation earlier in the season when Auston Matthews was sidelined, Berube recalled the team’s resilience: “When Auston was out, we played a real strong team game every night, relied on our checking, and did the right things, special teams.” He urged the team to adopt a similar mindset during Tavares’s recovery.
