Detroit Lions wide receiver Allen Robinson is currently contemplating retirement after an 11-season NFL career. At 31, Robinson is considering focusing on media endeavors, including potential podcasting and roles with SiriusXM. Reflecting on his career, he expressed gratitude for his experiences and indicated a desire to evaluate his future with his family.

 

Robinson’s journey began when he was drafted in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars after playing collegiately at Penn State. Over the years, he has had stints with the Jaguars, Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants, and finally, the Detroit Lions. In the 2024 season with the Lions, Robinson recorded three receptions for 30 yards across 12 appearances.

 

Robinson’s potential retirement is part of a broader trend among veteran Lions players considering their futures. For instance, defensive end Romeo Okwara announced his retirement in March 2024 after eight NFL seasons, citing a desire to step away from the game and expressing gratitude for his experiences and teammates.

 

Similarly, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who joined the Lions as a backup in 2023, had initially planned to retire after the 2023 season to pursue high school coaching. However, he briefly returned to the Lions in December 2024 to support their playoff run, demonstrating his commitment to the team and the game.
