Liverpool has reportedly activated contacts as of yesterday in preparation to trigger Mohammed Kudus’ €98.85 million (£85 million) release clause this summer. This update was shared by former BBC Sport reporter @SannieDaara on X, ahead of the impending opening of the summer transfer window.

Kudus’ versatility has been evident in his usage by David Moyes this season, featuring in six different positions, including centre forward, left wing, right wing, left midfield, right midfield, and attacking midfielder. This flexibility has been a recurring theme throughout his career, with Ajax deploying him in central midfield and on the right flank in previous seasons.

At just 23 years old, Kudus has already made a significant impact in the Premier League, hinting at his potential to ascend to world-class status. This potential signing aligns with the type of acquisitions typically made under the tenure of former sporting director Michael Edwards.

While Kudus’ statistics suggest room for growth, particularly in non-penalty expected goals (xG), where he falls below expectations for a Liverpool forward, he excels in other areas. His exceptional dribbling ability, ranking in the 98th percentile for successful take-ons among peers in attacking midfield and winger roles, and his high rate of completed tackles (96th percentile) indicate his suitability for a system that values forwards who contribute defensively.

Among Luis Diaz, Mo Salah, and Darwin Nunez, only the Colombian international has completed as many tackles in the final third as Kudus, highlighting his defensive prowess.
