Report: Three reasons why Trent Alexander-Arnold should pass up a Real Madrid transfer for a new Liverpool position

Emmanuel Petit has advised Trent Alexander-Arnold to reject interest from Real Madrid and stay with Liverpool this summer. The 25-year-old defender has been loosely linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu as Carlo Ancelotti seeks to strengthen his squad.

Alexander-Arnold, whose contract at Anfield runs until 2025, has appeared 26 times in the Premier League this season, scoring three goals and providing four assists. His standout performances in the first half of the season played a crucial role in Liverpool’s title push, contributing to draws against Manchester City and Arsenal.

However, a severe knee injury in February has hindered the England international’s form, and Liverpool have since dropped out of the title race after defeats to Crystal Palace and Everton.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future with his contract expiring next season, Petit believes Alexander-Arnold should remain loyal to his childhood club. Petit stated in an interview with Grosvenor Sport that few English players venture abroad, and he feels Alexander-Arnold may struggle to handle the pressure at Real Madrid. He emphasized the comfort and support Alexander-Arnold receives at Liverpool, suggesting he may be better off staying put.

Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah also have contracts expiring in June 2025. Former Liverpool CEO Peter Moore highlighted the importance of securing new deals for the trio, indicating that Michael Edwards will prioritize these negotiations.
