Report: Jarell Quansah Reflecting on My Goal Amidst Gutted Feelings

Jarell Quansah: Reflecting on My Goal Amidst Gutted Feelings

Jarell Quansah’s primary feeling following Liverpool’s 3-3 draw away at Aston Villa was disappointment at not securing all three points. Despite scoring his first Premier League goal during the match to put Liverpool 3-1 ahead early in the second half at Villa Park, the hosts fought back to salvage a result, thanks to a late brace from substitute Jhon Duran.

Expressing his reaction, Quansah told Liverpoolfc.com: “I’m certainly disappointed. I felt we had control of the game for the most part, but once they scored, they gained momentum. That’s essentially what happened today.”

Following an early Emi Martinez own goal and Youri Tielemans’ equalizer, Cody Gakpo restored Liverpool’s lead before Quansah extended it further with a header from Harvey Elliott’s free-kick.

Reflecting on his goal, Quansah explained: “I noticed Virg [van Dijk] blocking the defender to keep me onside, and I focused on making good contact with the header. I didn’t have a clear view, but when I saw it go in, I was thrilled. However, it’s difficult to dwell on that moment today because I’m disappointed about conceding three goals. It’s definitely an aspect we need to improve.”

Quansah retained his spot in the starting lineup for the match against Unai Emery’s team, marking his 32nd appearance of the season across all competitions. This season holds significant memories for the center-back, with notable milestones achieved and personal progress made.

Reflecting on his journey, the 21-year-old expressed gratitude towards the manager for entrusting him with these opportunities. He highlighted the invaluable experience gained from facing top-tier opponents and playing alongside world-class teammates. Quansah aims to maintain this upward trajectory and continue improving.

Liverpool will conclude their 2023-24 fixtures with a home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon, marking the end of Jürgen Klopp’s illustrious tenure at the club. Quansah hopes for a victory to honor Klopp’s legacy, anticipating an emotional atmosphere at Anfield. He acknowledges Klopp’s immense contribution to the club, particularly in providing opportunities for young players like himself, and anticipates a memorable farewell for the manager.
