Report: Arne Slot’s “excellent” player could be signed by Liverpool.

Arne Slot’s “excellent” player could be signed by Liverpool.

Liverpool is reportedly interested in securing the services of a standout player during the upcoming summer transfer window, viewing him as a potential successor to a current key player. The club, amidst ongoing speculation about new signings under the anticipated management of Arne Slot, is eyeing various options to bolster its squad. Among the players linked with a move to Anfield are West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus, who has impressed with his performances, and former Everton winger Anthony Gordon, now shining at Newcastle United. Additionally, Liverpool is considering younger talents like Sunderland’s Chris Rigg. On the goalkeeping front, the Reds are monitoring the situation of Southampton’s Alex McCarthy, who could join on a free transfer if Caoimhin Kelleher opts for a move elsewhere, with Celtic among the potential destinations for the Irish goalkeeper.

McCarthy could serve as an excellent backup choice for Alisson if Kelleher decides to seek new opportunities this summer, aligning well with Liverpool’s criteria. As a local talent, he fulfills the club’s homegrown requirements and brings substantial experience in English football, with 147 Premier League appearances and one England cap to his name. Despite being 34 years old and earning £50,000 per week, McCarthy might be content with a backup role at a top club, offering reliability in cup matches and potentially stepping in for Alisson during league games, especially considering the latter’s occasional injury issues.
