Liverpool declared that if they bought only one player from Arsenal, they would win the Premier League.

This season, Liverpool came very, very close to winning the Premier League. Sadly, the Merseyside team has lost ground over the last several weeks. A month or two ago, the Reds were leading the battle for the championship.

Eamon Dunphy has been talking about the Reds’ championship run on his podcast, and he has mentioned that he thinks Liverpool would have won the league this year if they had acquired Declan Rice in the summer rather than Arsenal. Dunphy stated, “I believe he would have been tremendous for Liverpool this year if they had purchased him.” “John, I would claim that Liverpool, my side, would have won the league this year if they had paid £100 million to acquire Rice last summer like Arsenal did. Mac Allister is the only one who has performed well; the rest aren’t very good.” Declan Rice should have joined Liverpool. Though it’s easy to say that Liverpool should have bought Declan Rice, this is now abundantly clear.

Regretfully, Liverpool’s timing was not favorable this time around. When Rice joined with Arsenal, Fabinho was still a member of Liverpool, and it’s unlikely that Jurgen Klopp’s team had any intention of acquiring a marquee holding midfield player. Naturally, everything changed later in the window when Wataru Endo was signed and a significant bid was made for Moises Caicedo; nonetheless, Rice would have been a target if the Reds had gotten everything in order earlier in the window. Whether Rice would have led Liverpool to a league championship is debatable, but it’s difficult to deny that he would have improved this team and brought them even closer.
