“Former Seahawks Starter Anticipated to Secure $39 Million Deal with Lions”

The defense was redesigned by the Seattle Seahawks after Mike Macdonald was named head coach. Despite having one year left on his $39 million contract, the Seahawks released safety Quandre Diggs in March to make much-needed salary cap space. Diggs was slated to make $10.4 million this season, which meant he would have a $21.2 million cap hit. The Seahawks were able to clear $11 million in cap space for the 2024 season by dismissing the 31-year-old veteran. After two months, Diggs is still unsigned. But according to Randy Mueller of The Athletic, he will eventually rejoin the Detroit Lions, his old squad.

Mueller noted that since 2019, he hasn’t missed a single game and has consistently played at least 97% of the defensive snaps over three seasons, despite enduring a broken leg in the final game of 2021. In the previous season, he achieved a career-high of 95 tackles, demonstrating his enduring agility and sharp instincts in reading and reacting to plays from the post position, making him a valuable asset in zone coverage for most teams. Mueller suggests that a return to his initial team, the Detroit Lions, could be a logical move. With the Lions restructuring their secondary, particularly at cornerback, adding an experienced communicator could significantly bolster the cohesion of the defensive backfield.
