Report: “Liverpool Not Pursuing Goncalo Inacio Transfer Despite Monitoring Claims”

“Liverpool Not Pursuing Goncalo Inacio Transfer Despite Monitoring Claims”

Liverpool has clarified that they are not currently pursuing a transfer for Sporting CP center-back Goncalo Inacio this summer, despite recent reports suggesting otherwise.

Earlier this week, rumors surfaced indicating that both Liverpool and Manchester United were closely monitoring the 22-year-old with potential moves in mind for the upcoming transfer window. However, This Is Anfield has learned that Inacio is not included in Liverpool’s list of potential targets for the center-back position.

The recent links to Inacio are believed to be an attempt to generate interest in the player, who has long been considered bound for the Premier League. While Liverpool has been monitoring various defensive targets since before last summer in preparation for reinforcements in that area, the emergence of Jarell Quansah has somewhat alleviated the immediate need for action. However, Joel Matip’s departure on a free transfer has once again opened up a potential vacancy.

Names like Eintracht Frankfurt’s Willian Pacho and Lille youngster Leny Yoro have frequently been mentioned as potential targets in recent weeks. However, it remains to be seen which direction new head coach Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes will take in their pursuit of defensive additions.

Additionally, Liverpool has set a £20 million price tag on defender Sepp van den Berg following his successful loan spell at Mainz. Reports suggesting a buy option as low as €5 million were inaccurate, as the Reds retain control over setting the asking price amidst strong interest in Van den Berg.
