RailRiders Shut Out Red Wings in Dominant 3-0 Victory

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, June 12, 2024** — The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders delivered a commanding performance on the road, defeating the Rochester Red Wings 3-0. The Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees showcased stellar pitching and timely hitting to secure the win.

Right-hander Luis Gil, making his return to the mound after a brief stint on the injured list, was the star of the night. Gil threw six shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out eight. His fastball had the Red Wings’ batters off balance all evening, consistently hitting the upper 90s. Gil’s performance set the tone early, demonstrating why he is one of the top pitching prospects in the Yankees’ system.

The RailRiders’ bullpen maintained the shutout, with Greg Weissert and Nick Ramirez each contributing a scoreless inning. Closer Michael King sealed the victory in the ninth, recording his 12th save of the season. King struck out two and induced a weak ground ball to end the game, showcasing his composure under pressure.

Offensively, the RailRiders capitalized on their opportunities. In the third inning, shortstop Oswald Peraza ignited the offense with a lead-off double. Estevan Florial followed with an RBI single to give the RailRiders a 1-0 lead. In the sixth, the RailRiders added insurance runs. Outfielder Elijah Dunham smashed a two-run home run, his 10th of the season, extending the lead to 3-0. Dunham’s power and consistency at the plate have been pivotal for the RailRiders throughout the season.

The victory improves the RailRiders’ record to 38-25, solidifying their position atop the International League standings. Manager Doug Davis praised his team’s effort, particularly the pitching staff, saying, “Our guys executed the game plan perfectly tonight. Gil was outstanding, and our bullpen did a great job closing it out.”

The RailRiders look to carry this momentum into their next series as they continue their push for a postseason berth. They return home to face the Buffalo Bisons, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM on Friday.
