Liverpool is getting close to making their first summer signing, a £1.5 million teenage phenomenon.

Liverpool are finalizing the acquisition of highly-regarded young Wolves star Alvin Ayman.

According to The Secret Scout, the 16-year-old might cost a compensation fee of £1.5 million if the deal is completed. Ayman, who can play as a center back or defensive midfielder, traveled with the Wolves first-team squad for a Premier League match against Manchester City last season but did not make the matchday squad. He made seven appearances in the Under-18 Premier League last season and played in midfield against Liverpool in a 4-2 win.

He was also called up to the Premier League 2 squad, playing twice for Wolves’ under-21s last season. In May, it was reported that Wolves feared losing Ayman, and another academy star, Wes Okoduwa, to ‘Big Six’ Premier League clubs, with Manchester United showing interest in both.

Liverpool has a strategy of signing top academy talents from around the UK since post-Brexit regulations made it harder to recruit underage players from Europe. Ben Doak, Bobby Clark, James McConnell, and Trey Nyoni, all signed from UK academies, contributed to Liverpool’s first-team success, including winning the Carabao Cup in February. Doak joined from Celtic for around £600,000 in March 2022, Clark moved from Newcastle for around £1.5 million in August 2021, McConnell came from Sunderland in 2019, and Nyoni was recruited from Leicester last summer.
