Regarding Bronny James’ Lakers debut, what did LeBron James have to say?

James Jr. scored just four points in his debut for the Los Angeles Lakers in the California Classic Summer League. On Saturday, Bronny James played his first game for the Lakers after being drafted 55th in the 2024 NBA Draft. The 19-year-old played against the Sacramento Kings just hours before it was confirmed that LeBron James had signed a new contract with the Lakers.

The exact terms of LeBron’s contract were not officially released, but it was reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania that the 39-year-old agreed to a two-year, $104 million maximum deal, including a player option and a no-trade clause. However, ESPN later reported that LeBron signed a $101.35 million two-year extension. Regardless, LeBron and Bronny are set to be the first father-son duo to play together in the NBA starting in the 2024/25 season.

In his debut, Bronny played 21 minutes and 43 seconds, recording four points, four assists, two rebounds, and a steal. He missed all three of his three-point attempts. LeBron James expressed pride in his son’s achievement, especially given Bronny’s recovery from a cardiac arrest that sidelined him for about five months less than a year ago. LeBron emphasized the hard work Bronny has put in and asked for patience as his son adjusts to the NBA’s pace and physicality.
