Former defensive tackle with the Detroit Lions signs with the San Francisco 49ers

PARK ALLEN — Former starting defensive tackle Nick Williams of the Detroit Lions is leaving to join his third team in as many seasons. After signing, the 34-year-old will be in The Bay with fellow Detroit Lions starting defender Tracy Walker of the San Francisco 49ers. The Lions signed Williams as a member of the last class of free agents, which included Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn. In two seasons and two different Detroit regimes, he ended up starting thirty games. He has only made 13 starts in two years since leaving, split between stints with the Los Angeles Chargers and New York Giants.Onwuzurike is still receiving recognition for his performance at training camp and the offseason program. The former second-round selection feels and looks more like himself now that he is back over 300 pounds. Regarding Onwuzurike, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn stated, “Well, the first thing I would say about it is those are the types of athletes that we get in the building, so it wasn’t a surprise that he continued to work like that.” “You just don’t know, man, when it comes to dealing with things like that and your back. That’s what you know.” Many of the teammates I’ve known and played with in the past said they were done playing if they had a back problem. However, he persisted in fighting.
