Massive Trade: jets coach is Running Out of Excuses, and it have Cost Him
Robert Saleh’s seat is getting very warm. The New York Jets haven’t made the playoffs since 2010. To put things in perspective, the Denver Broncos have only missed the playoffs for eight years. Now, this might not be such a big deal if this were a smaller market team without a strong national following or history, but it’s the New York Jets, one of the most well-known and followed teams in the NFL.
There are no justifications for the Jets. Everybody has someone to blame, and they won’t stop until they let go of that person. Throughout his three seasons with the Jets, Robert Saleh has consistently offered an explanation. It might be Robert Saleh’s turn this time. Given that Saleh has been the coach for almost four years, some would wonder why the coach doesn’t always take the credit. Not really, at least not yet.
Excuse 1: The New York Jets are taking a different route.
It was quite simple to blame Robert Saleh’s new coaching staff and rookie quarterback Zach Wilson for the team’s lack of success during the first and, to some extent, second seasons. There were indications of improvement even though the Jets missed the playoffs for the first time, and most supporters were fine with them missing. The objective at the conclusion of the first season was to acquire new players through trades and the NFL Draft, and they appeared to succeed in doing so during the offseason, which once again made fans feel good about Saleh and the team.
2 Second Excuse: The Solution Is Not Zach Wilson
The Jets’ troubles persisted even after they went out and added more offensive weapons to surround Zach Wilson. After failing to guide the Jets to a winning record for a few games, Saleh and the club benched Wilson in favor of Mike White and Joe Flacco, but the squad was once again unable to win. Once more, the supporters were satisfied when Saleh and the Jets pledged to change course the next season and succeeded in doing so by acquiring Aaron Rodgers. The Jets won big when they brought in the former MVP, even if it was getting a little warm around Saleh and put an end to any rumors about him being replaced.
Excuse 3: An injury to Aaron Rodgers
In 2023, Aaron Rodgers’ attempt was short-lived as he was injured on the opening play of the game. Before the squad saw the end zone, Rodgers suffered an ACL tear, ending his season. Zach Wilson, Rodgers’ backup and someone to watch closely, was thrust into the action out of nowhere. It was a rerun of the 2021 and 2022 seasons over the course of the next several games: a few victories mixed in with a ton of heartbreaking defeats.
The Jets alternated between playing quarterbacks for the remainder of the season, including Tim Boyle and Trevor Simeian. Once more, not one of these quarterbacks was able to make it big, but supporters were still understanding because Aaron Rodgers got hurt and it wasn’t Saleh’s fault.
Excuse 4: Do You Have Any More?
The New York Jets and Robert Saleh have finally gotten everything they could have dreamed of and more. They had the coordinators they had hoped for, their MVP quarterback, and stars surrounding the QB. It appears as though Saleh might lose his job and the Jets will start over if they can’t turn things around significantly in the upcoming games.
