Troy Aikman is back in the NFL as the Next New York Jets Head Coach

The New York Jets are in the midst of a crucial season with high standards they must achieve. It is especially Robert Saleh’s responsibility to ensure the Jets succeed in Aaron Rodgers’ first full season, or things might become heated. There was little cause for optimism after the first game versus the San Francisco 49ers. Saleh did not alter the game in any way to ensure that the Jets’ inability to win in the trenches could be corrected. The 49ers gained 180 yards on the ground as a consequence. Then, in order to limit Rodgers and make the attack predictable, the offense adopted a conservative approach, going run-run-pass on three of the five drives in the first half.

Aikman, who is currently on the ESPN Broadcast team, has had an interest in getting into coaching for quite some time now. The Jets could open the door for him to do so.

Over his playing career with the Dallas Cowboys, Aikman won three Super Bowls, was a six-time Pro Bowler, and had a 94-71 regular season record with an 11-5 postseason record. Concussions forced him to retire before he should’ve stopped playing, but that drive to win would remain the same through the avenue of coaching.

With the Jets, Aikman would be able to provide a spark, and with being a former quarterback, would pick up on necessary adjustments that would be needed in games. Rodgers won’t be around much longer, and with that means a rookie or younger quarterback would take over, and Aikman would be a great mentor for that quarterback to grow under.

The Jets need a spark at the coaching position, and Aikman deserves a chance to further solidify his NFL legacy with the chance to coach. Providing an ideal scenario for both
