Done Deal: Jets have Sign 69 Sack Vet as Jermaine Johnson Replacement

Jets must sign a 69-sack veteran to replace Jermaine Johnson. The New York Jets must bolster their roster. Jermaine Johnson, a pass rusher for the Tennessee Titans, was taken off the field on Sunday, September 15, due to an Achilles injury. Inside the building, there is a worry that Johnson tore his Achilles. Should further medical testing validate that, Johnson will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2024 season.

Yannick Ngakoue, a veteran free agent, is one replacement the team may try out.

Ngakoue is the Jets’ best option right now.

There aren’t many options, that much is certain. Few free agents are available who have the potential to make a significant impact. Ngakoue might be the free agent that best suits that description. Ngakoue, 29, is, in every sense of the word, a hired mercenary. In his eight years in the NFL, the former Maryland product has played for six different organizations. Ngakoue has shown to be a productive player despite switching teams frequently in the NFL. Since joining the league in 2016, he has made 115 starts and featured in 123 games. Ngakoue has accumulated 224 tackles, 69 sacks, 21 forced fumbles, and 142 quarterback hits in that time. Ngakoue has recently signed a number of contracts that have been large. He agreed to a one-year contract worth $10.5 million in 2023. During his two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021–2022 he earned a total of $26 million. He had a $12 million one-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars before to that. You get what you pay for, but that might turn out to be too luxurious for the Jets’ liking. Ngakoue was ranked by Raymond Summerlin of Sharp Football Analytics as his “best available EDGE free agent.” The Jets’ defensive line is the straw that stirs the wine. The Jets need both quantity and quality for it to run at full potential. They need quality players since they rotate a lot and the defense depends on its front four players returning home. It’s not apparent

Clearly, the Jets need to play. We can all differ on who the Jets should sign, but one thing is certain: something has to be done. The green and white lost or dealt away Quinton Jefferson, Bryce Huff, and John Franklin-Myers this summer. According to ESPN, Huff, JFM, and Jefferson combined for 19.5 sacks in 2023. In addition, the Jets are struggling as a result of Johnson’s loss. The club hopes to make the playoffs and win the Super Bowl this season. There’s no way the defense can achieve those high standards if they can’t regularly rush the passer. This early in the season, trading for a proven pass-rushing stud could be challenging. There are just two weeks left before the 2024
