In the wake of Aaron Rodgers’ departure, the New York Jets are evaluating their quarterback options for the 2025 season.

Veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who joined the Jets in March 2024 on a two-year deal worth up to $18 million , is emerging as a potential starter. Reports indicate that multiple individuals within the organization hold Taylor in high regard and would support him leading the team.

Taylor’s experience and dual-threat capabilities make him a viable candidate for the starting role. Throughout his 14-year NFL career, he has accumulated 12,254 passing yards, 68 touchdowns, and 2,281 rushing yards . His versatility and leadership qualities have earned him respect within the Jets’ facility.

The Jets’ new general manager, Darren Mougey, and head coach, Aaron Glenn, have expressed confidence in Taylor’s abilities. They are exploring all options to address the quarterback position, including the draft, free agency, and trades . However, with the team not expected to draft a first-round quarterback, Taylor’s position appears more secure based on merit .

Taylor’s potential elevation to the starting role would mirror his past experiences mentoring young quarterbacks and serving as a bridge starter. His presence could provide stability and guidance, especially if the Jets decide to develop a younger quarterback alongside him. As the team continues its search for a new identity under Mougey and Glenn, Taylor’s leadership and experience could be pivotal in navigating the upcoming season.
